Howdy fellow archivers :~)
So for the past year I've been downloading with no problem using Windows XP. I'm now using the new Vista and can't figure out how to "get" the downloads. Could somebody please help?! As far as this '78 show...ROCKIN'!!The slide work Jerry & Bobby use in the 1st set is awesome, especially in Stagger!!!"The song that woman sung..."---Thanks in advance if you can help out!

Can't help you there. All I can say is that Vista = EVIL. It's the worst O/S released by MicroSatin ever, worse than Millennium, and that's saying a lot. In reading other forums, I read that Microsoft will discontinue selling XP sometime in June. I'd recommend going back to XP and laying low until they pull their heads out and release something better. I know several people that have bought laptops, been so frustrated with Vista that they've dumped it and put XP on. Better yet, get a Mac or go to Linux.

Wish I could be more help than just to rag on Vista. Maybe someone else has some real help for you.

I've been running vista for several months now, could you be a little more specific when you say you can't get your downloads, what are you using? Personally, I have several programs that I'm not even sure which one I use for stuff. If you are talking about downloading the auds from here, I usually download the zip file and it goes to my desktop, where I unzip it with winrar, I think. I'll grab a show and try to sort it out.

I echo jackstraw86's post. I switched to Ubuntu (a linux distro) in December and have never looked back. "The only windows in my house are the glass ones"
It gave me a headache for a couple days but once I`d got my brain round the differences I couldn`t believe what a headache windows was.
Give it a try. You can download a cd and boot from it to get an idea of what it`s like. You can "dual boot" with windows (ie have both operating systems on your pc at the same time) and choose which one when you switch it on. Or like me you can back up all your files on to a couple of external hard drives and nuke your whole computer removing windows forever.
Best thing is it`s completely free, all software. No more money for virus protection or microsoft office etc etc etc.
There is a free version of almost all windows software, usually superior and the comunity support is amazing.

Btw why download when you can stream!

I guess I'm not much of a computer person. With XP, I was given the directions for Downloading shows: 1. From the start menu, go to my computer, C drive (local disk), Docs and settings, Owner's, Local Settings, then Temp. Internet Files. From there you just drag the Windows Media Player files over to the desktop into a new folder.

So, I've been doing the above directions with no problem using an XP. The problem is that I now have Vista on my laptop and haven't a CLUE what to do. None of the above directions are the same, or seem to follow the same steps.

Does any of this make any sense?!

I am GRATEFUL for any assistance :~)

Cheers!!

LMA was paid over 5 billion dollars to help Bill determine how to prevent cache capture since he was convinced it was the root of all evil. If your computer "talks" to the site, and "they" capture your info, shouldn't "you" return the favor? Of course! But that symmetry was a no-no.

Doesn't work. Anymore.

Doesn't that really piss you off?

I win! I win!

Sarcasm, I assume--you aren't really going to give me an award, are you LC? Well, my sarcasm probably didn't deserve it either...

You know me well enough, I assume, to know I am a techno twit of the highest order, and know NOTHING about such things, and I am NO conspiracy theorist, BUT I did have the same experience as the thread starter: at least on my Vista the cache folder doesn't seem to "capture" anything like XP did...probably just my inability to "see" it...?
